FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
If you have any questions please ask, you can expect a prompt reply
Is there enough room for us?
The apartment sleeps 5 in two double and one single bedroom. A baby (up to 6 or 7 months) with its own bed may also stay.
How long does it take to drive to Rotorua?
From Auckland 3 hours, Bay of Islands 7-8 hours, Whitianga/ Coromandel 3-4 hours, Waitomo 2 hours, Taupo 1 hour, Tauranga 1 hour, Napier 3 hours, Wellington 6-7 hours.
Where can we park?
There is an internal garage with remote opener suitable for a car or 4WD vehicle.  Clearance: 2.1m. For other vehicles or visitors, there are free car parks on the street outside.
How private is it?
No other property overlooks it. The houses are staggered and though one neighbour can see your balcony and garden they would not normally be looking your way.
Quiet?
The area is relatively quiet - heavy traffic is rare and the neighbourhood is generally quiet. There is a pub nearby that can be heard some Saturday nights (closed by 12pm). Occasionally at night a noisy car goes past or loud people walk by and once a week a road sweeper makes an early morning pass.  During the day you will hear float planes and helicopters take off from time to time.
What security is there?
The apartment is flanked by private owners, it is well fenced with security fittings on the downstairs doors and windows. There is an alarm system you may set and a small safe for your valuables and travel documents.
What do we do for breakfast?
When you arrive you will find food basics and generous breakfast provisions sufficient for a few days. There are supermarkets and shops a short drive away.  A walk of 100-500 meters will take you to cafés that serve breakfast and lunch.
Do you recommend restaurants?
Yes, there is a compendium that describes our favourite restaurants and makes recommendations for a range of price levels. There is a favourite food map too.
Do you recommend Maori cultural evenings?
When you make a reservation we will send you information about Rotorua that includes outlines of the Maori cultural evenings offered. You may prefer a day tour with Superia Tours where you will get an excellent insight and experience of Maori culture.
What's the story with servicing?
The tariff includes full servicing twice a week - that is cleaning, changing the linen and replenishing toiletries, tea, coffee, sugar, etc.  You may choose to have more frequent serving at a cost of $60 each time.
Will I be cold?
A Town House has geothermally heated water radiators that you can turn on and off as you like. Day time Summer temperatures in Rotorua are low to mid 20'sC (70-85F) generally dropping overnight, so air conditioning is not necessary.  Visitors to New Zealand are recommended to bring layers of clothing - the weather can be very variable from day to day and each day.
Can we bring our baby?
Yes.  Babies up to 6 or 7 months may stay. Bring everything you need for your baby as no equipment is provided.  Because A Town House is two storeyed and the bedrooms are widely separated children from 6 months to 10 years old may not stay.
How far from everything is it?
To the lake front 150-200m, major restaurant area 400-600m, Post Office 600m, supermarkets 1.2km, airport 10km. There is an excellent café 100m away.  Check out the Maps
- there are dining out and visitor attractions maps.
Where can we visit on a day trip from Rotorua?
It is an easy day trip from Rotorua to surf and harbour beaches on the Bay of Plenty coast - Mt Maunganui, Papamoa and Ohope would be the most popular. Visit Taupo for the activities and sights around the Huka Falls. Waitomo Caves for cave visits, one we recommend is Spellbound. Or go adventure caving - black-water rafting and abseiling/rappelling). White Island can be visited as a day trip from Rotorua too.  Marked on the Maps.
What internet access is available?
A Town House has unlimited free WiFi. In the study/3rd bedroom is a desk with a printer/scanner/copier, load the software provided into your laptop and it is free to use.  If you don't have a laptop there are Internet cafés nearby with modest charges.
Can we wash our clothes?
Yes.  In the garage there is a washing machine and lines for hanging your clothes. The garage is warm and laundry dries in 12 hours. For even quicker drying, there is a clothes horse that fits in the hot water cupboard.
Is the linen provided?
Yes, all bed linen, towels, beach towels, tea towels and table cloths are provided and laundered for you.
Can we have visitors?
Yes, up to a maximum of 10 people can visit, larger groups are by arrangement. Crockery, glassware and cutlery are provided for up to 8, more can be arranged. Visitors should depart by 10.30pm.
